Is It Safe to Order Chicken Online? 7 Checks Before You Buy
Yes, it is safe to order chicken online, as long as the seller keeps it cold, cuts it fresh, seals it properly and shows you who they are. The risk is not in ordering online. The risk is in ordering from a seller you cannot check. Run through the 7 checks below before your first order and you will know within five minutes.
A lot of people in Meerut still walk to the same chicken shop every week, and that is fine. But if you have ever wondered whether ordering raw chicken from your phone is a good idea, you are asking the right question. Here is how to judge any seller, including us.
7 checks before you order chicken online
1The seller has a real local address and a number that picks up
Look for a shop or kitchen address, a phone or WhatsApp number, and a Google Business Profile you can open on Maps. Send one message before you order. A real seller replies like a person.
Red flag: Only a contact form, no address, no phone.
2They tell you clearly if the chicken is fresh or frozen
Both can be fine, but you should know which one you are paying for. If the page does not say, ask. A seller who is proud of fresh-cut chicken will say it loudly.
Red flag: Words like "farm fresh" with no mention of when it was cut.
3It arrives sealed, clean and cold
Good chicken comes in a sealed pack that is not leaking, not puffed up and feels cool to touch. Raw chicken that sits warm for hours is the real safety problem, not the website you ordered it from.
Red flag: Loose or leaking packs, warm to touch.
4The delivery time makes sense
The shorter the gap between cutting and your kitchen, the better. A seller promising delivery in a couple of hours is thinking about freshness. A seller who says "2 to 3 days" for fresh chicken is not.
Red flag: Fresh chicken with multi-day delivery.
5You see the price per kg before you order
A clear price per kg, and the delivery charge shown up front. No surprise at the checkout.
Red flag: "Call for price" on everything.
6There are reviews from real people, not just testimonials on the website
Check Google reviews, the ones with names, dates and photos. A few honest 4-star reviews are more believable than a wall of perfect ones that all sound the same.
Red flag: Only reviews that are on the seller's own site.
7They answer the halal and licence questions without hesitation
If halal matters to your family, ask for the certification. Also look for an FSSAI registration or licence number on the site or the pack. Every legal food seller in India has one, and a trustworthy seller does not mind you asking.
Red flag: No FSSAI number anywhere, or vague answers like "yes yes it's halal" with nothing to show.
What to check the moment it arrives
Even after a good order, take 30 seconds at the door. If anything below is off, do not accept the pack.
| Check | What good looks like |
|---|---|
| Smell | Fresh raw chicken smells clean and mild. A sour or sharp smell means send it back. |
| Colour | Pale pink and even. Grey or greenish patches are a no. |
| Feel | Moist but not slimy or sticky. |
| Pack | Sealed, not leaking, not bloated. |
| Temperature | Cool to touch. If it feels warm, do not accept it. |

Local shop or online: which is better?
Honestly, a good local shop is hard to beat if you know the shopkeeper and can watch the chicken being cut. Ordering online wins when you want to skip the trip and the queue, and when the seller is local enough to deliver while the chicken is still fresh. Pick whichever you can verify. We went through the full comparison in market chicken vs online delivery in Meerut.
After delivery: store it right
Put the chicken in the fridge straight away at 4°C or below and cook it within 1 to 2 days. If you will not use it in that time, freeze it. More detail in our guide on how long fresh chicken lasts in the fridge. Wondering whether frozen chicken is a better fit for you? Read frozen vs fresh chicken.
Try one small order first
Order a kilo, check the pack when it arrives, and judge us with your own eyes. If you have questions before you order, message us on WhatsApp and a real person will reply.
Order chicken online Ask on WhatsAppFrequently asked questions
Is it safe to order chicken online?
Yes, it is safe if the seller keeps the chicken cold, delivers it sealed and is a real business you can verify. Check the address, reviews and delivery time before your first order, and check the smell, colour and pack when it arrives.
Is it safe to buy raw chicken online?
Yes. Raw chicken is safe to buy online when it is packed sealed, kept cold and delivered quickly. What matters is the cold chain and the seller, not whether you ordered on a website or in a shop.
Can I trust online chicken quality?
You can trust it when the seller shows you the basics: a real address, clear fresh or frozen labelling, honest reviews and a clear price per kg. If the seller is vague about any of these, order from someone else.
Are online chicken delivery apps reliable?
Some are, some are not. Look at how long the delivery really takes, whether the chicken is cut fresh or frozen, and what recent Google reviews say about quality and late deliveries. A local seller you can message directly is often easier to hold accountable.
Which is better for chicken: a local shop or ordering online?
A good local shop is fine if you trust the shopkeeper and can see the chicken being cut. Ordering online saves the trip and the wait, and works well when the seller is local, cuts to order and delivers fast. Pick whichever one you can verify.
Is Alizo Foods FSSAI registered?
Yes. Alizo Foods is an FSSAI registered food business in Meerut, Registration No. 22726676000111, in the category of meat and meat products including poultry. You should ask any seller for their FSSAI number before you order, and we are happy to share ours.
How do I order chicken online in Meerut?
Open alizo.in, pick your chicken cut and weight, and place the order. If you prefer, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7302884246 with the cut and quantity and we will confirm the order for you.
How long can I keep chicken in the fridge after delivery?
Raw chicken should go straight into the fridge at 4°C or below and be cooked within 1 to 2 days. If you will not cook it in that time, freeze it as soon as it arrives.
What should I check when the chicken arrives?
Check that the pack is sealed and cool, the chicken is pale pink with no grey patches, it smells clean and mild, and it is moist but not slimy. If anything feels off, do not accept it.
